Model Y Jack Points and How to Lift It Safely
Short answer: Lift a Model Y only at its four designated body lift points, one near each wheel. Never lift under the battery or the side rails, and never raise the car with the charge cable connected. Tesla says damage from lifting at any other point is not covered by the warranty.
Tesla's steps (from the owner's manual)
- Position the car centrally between the lift posts.
- Put the lift arm pads under the designated body lift points. The exact location can differ slightly, so check the car itself.
- Adjust pad height and position so they sit correctly.
- With help, raise the lift, making sure the pads stay in place.
- Engage the lift safety locks per the lift maker's instructions.
Using a floor jack (Tesla mobile service procedure)
- Park on a level surface; close the hood, trunk and doors.
- Chock the wheel diagonally opposite the corner you are lifting.
- Align the jack stand adapter's locating pin with the hole at the lift point, raise, then set a jack stand under the adapter.
- Never support the car from diagonal points (for example, left front and right rear) at the same time.
Tire rotation is due every 6,250 miles or at a 2/32 in tread difference, per Tesla: see Model Y maintenance and 2026 Model Y tires.
FAQ
Can I put a jack under the battery?
No. Tesla says not to lift from under the battery or side rails, and that damage from lifting at other points is not covered by the warranty.
Can I lift the car while it is plugged in?
No. Tesla warns never to raise Model Y when the charge cable is connected, even if it is not charging.
Do I need jack pads?
Tesla's service procedure uses a jack stand adapter whose locating pin lines up with the hole at the lift point. If you use pads, make sure they are made to fit those lift points; poorly fitting pads can slip.
